Shepherd Leaders

Our elders are shepherd-leaders. They are not board members of a corporation. They don’t even touch church money. They care for people, they pray, they encourage people who are serving. Their job is to help people grow spiritually. (1 Pet 5:1-4)

Gospel Centered

By gospel we mean everything Christ taught not just salvation. As a Gospel-centered church we elevate the Bible as our final authority. Our loyalty is not to a political party, not to cultural movements, not to a particular pastor but to God’s Word. (2 Tim 3:16-17)

Inter-generational Community

We want young and old next to each other worshiping as well as serving because we need each other.

Pass the Light not the torch

Jesus is the light. God’s Word is the light. The torch might be any number of programs or buildings or even a philosophy of ministry. Every generation needs to construct appropriate torches to carry and spread The Light in their generation.

Not the church but a church

We are one little part of Christ’s worldwide spiritual community. Together with other churches we can and should improve the communities around us. Jesus did that. (Luke 4:18-19)

Generous Giving

We value giving as an important part of our worship and we celebrate it because of what God does when we give. Cornerstone is a repository where gifts given to the Lord are collected, stewarded and distributed to other churches, ministries and community organizations. (Mal 3:10)

Doctrine

  1. In the essentials, unity.

  2. In the non-essentials, liberty.

  3. In everything, love.

We embrace three simple rules when it comes to doctrine:

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His future personal return in power and glory.

  • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved to eternal life with Christ and those who are lost to eternal damnation in hell.

  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ

Statement of Faith

As adopted by the National Association of Evangelicals

Cornerstone's elders have adopted positions on the following topics:

Sanctity of Human Life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Ps 139.)
